What is CASB?

A Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) protects cloud-hosted data and provides enterprise-class security controls so that organisations can incorporate SaaS and IaaS into their existing security architecture. As organisations embrace the cloud, they replace many of their data centre applications with Software as a Service (SaaS) or move much of their IT into infrastructure (IaaS) providers like Amazon or Azure.

CASBs provides:

  • Visibility
  • Data security
  • Threat protection
  • Compliance.

When comparing CASB solutions it’s important to make sure that they meet your specific needs in each of these categories.

CASB and cloud security

Cloud Access Security Brokers work by ensuring that network traffic between on-premises devices and the cloud provider complies with your security policies. They have the ability to give insight into cloud application use across cloud platforms and identity unsanctioned use. CASBs use auto-discovery to identify cloud applications in use and identify high-risk applications, high-risk users and other important risk factors. Cloud access brokers have the ability to enforce a number of different security access controls, including encryption and device profiling. They could also provide other services such as credential mapping.

Enterprises increasingly turn to CASB vendors to enforce security policies, address cloud service risks, and comply with regulations.

About CASB and Nomios

Nomios has been active in deploying and managing security solutions since 2014. We can help you assess your current level of security and how the use of cloud applications exposes your organisation to new threats. We can advise if and how a CASB solution can limit these threats.

We'll help you to select the best CASB solution for you. This can be a proxy-, cloud- or agent-based solution. We can also assist you in the implementation to ensure that the policies on the CASB are aligned with the compliance rules that your organisation must adhere to.
